The Selection Process

First Round: Applications
SUMMER 2012 APPLICATIONS OPEN DECEMBER 1st AND CLOSE ON MAY 1st.
All interested applicants must submit a competed application by May 1st, 2010.  This written application will ask you to provide us with basic information on who you are, what you are interested in, and why you would like to attend The Activist Institute.  Additionally, each applicant is required to submit a generic cover letter, a resume, an unofficial transcript, and two recommendation letters in an envelope addressed to The Activist Institute.  Make sure that before you apply, you check out our eligibility requirements.

Second Round: Interviews
SUMMER 2012 INTERVIEWS WILL TAKE PLACE JANUARY 1st TO FEBRUARY 1st.
Out of all of the applications, we'll select up to 40 individuals per Institute for interviews who stand out as dedicated, passionate, and committed students.  All applicants will be notified by e-mail if they advance to the interview round or not by December 30th.  We'll then schedule a 20-minute phone or Skype interview with each advancing applicant to better get to know the applicant and their ambitions and goals for their time at the Institute as well for as their careers.  The interviews are a way for us to get to know you better and make sure that you're a good fit for the Institute.

Third Round: Selection Process and Internship Placement
SUMMER 2012 SELECTION PROCESS AND INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT TAKES PLACE BETWEEN FEBRUARY 1ST AND MAY 1ST
After the phone interviews 15-20 students will be accepted to each Institute on February 1st and then we will work on placing each of the students in an internship.  We pair each student up with one of our partner organizations that fit their field of interest within an issue.  For example, a student at the Energy, Environment, and Sustainability Institute who is interested in environmental justice may be placed in an organization working with green jobs rather than an environmental policy-based internship.  Though we already have connections and secured internships at all of our partnership organizations, we still send our students' resumes and cover letters along to give the organizations a final say.   We will notify each student of their final internship placement by May 1st, though students will most likely be informed of their placement sometime before then.
